Re: VGA for 10 to 15MHz (DC or AC) Signal for ADC input

Hi, Chris,

The AD8370 is one of the widest range digitally controlled differential VGA, but the gain range of 45 dB is still less than your requirement (20 log (7/10m) = 57 dB), so more than one VGA will be needed.  Which VGA is the "best" always depends on your application requirements: noise, distortion, max. gain needed, bandwidth (do you really need DC coupling?  Offset and drift will be a big issue), source impedance, analog vs. digital gain control, step size, etc.  You may be able to reduce output noise by going with a lower input impedance, say, using a 2 k-ohm resistive divider instead of a 1 Mohm 10:1 scope probe.  If you can provide more details on your requirements, we may be able to make a more relevant recommendation.
