You should not need much signal conditioning before applying the signal. What is you frequency of operation and the range of signal levels that will be applied?
If the signals are 90 degrees apart there is almost not error. Take a look at the datasheet starting on page 10 for the phase error. Basically, anything more than 30 degrees and less than 165 degrees is VERY LOW error, and it increases greatly outside of that phase range.
