That message means that the ADuC7023 hasn't ACKed the I2C transaction. Likely because the ADuC isn't in download mode.
Are you sure that you have reset (or power cycled) the ADuC7023 while the BM pin is low?
And are you also sure that address 0x80014 is erased? (0xFFFFFFFF).
The other reason could be that the I2C signal is distorted or isn't generated at all by the FTDI device. Culd you have a look with a scope on P0.4 P0.5?
